Vulamathuba Adult Matric Class of 2022/2023 ready to pursue their dream careers

The Vulamathuba Empumelelo Class of 2022/23 matric students recently wrote their final exams, successfully completing the final stretch of their journey towards obtaining a Senior Certificate for Adults (SC).

Here’s what some of our matric students had to say about the programme:

Thabiso and Babalwa Lebaka, a married couple from Joe Slovo Park near Milnerton, wanted to improve their career prospects and provide their children with a brighter future.

According to the couple, although they faced challenges like being unable to attend every class due to work or family obligations, obtaining a matric certificate is something they always wanted to achieve. The couple say that studying within a group environment was much better than learning independently, and I recommend the classes to anyone eager to complete their matric.

Nolukholo Mtini matriculated in 2016 with a bachelor’s pass; she joined the Matric Programme because she could not attain entry to tertiary institutions for the courses she wanted to pursue.
“I wanted better marks that educational institutions would value. Having a matric certificate gives you many study opportunities. You can study at a university or college. It also gives you access to bursaries, learnerships & entry-level work. The Vulamathuba programme benefits people or learners who want to improve their marks and get their national senior certificate. I was ready and well prepared for my exams because the teachers did an excellent job in helping us understand the whole syllabus, ensured we understood every topic and provided us with good study equipment. Currently, I’m doing a Civil Engineering course at the College of Cape Town.

Khanya Gijana wrote the matric examination in 2022 and wanted to improve his marks to pursue a nursing or health-related qualification.
The programme assisted with improving my marks because the teachers helped me understand most of the topics in the subjects.”

Berenice van Wyk and Margereth Mayamba Kabundi joined the programme as they realised the importance of obtaining a matric. They are married and have school-aged children, whichmakes balancing work and studies difficult. But they are insistent that the sacrifice is worth it.
Says Margereth, “I have benefited from the different subjects and especially the teachers’ input. I am grateful for the Adult Matric programme that Vulamathuba Empumelelo offers.”

Berenice echoed Margereth’s sentiments, adding, “We received a second chance to further our careers. I stopped working to be with my children, and now that they are all in school, I would like to return to work. However, most work opportunities require a matric. I am grateful to the teachers who prepared us well for the exams and hope I will pass. I thoroughly enjoyed the programme.”

Ayabonga Manxeba dropped out of high school in Grade 10 and has worked at a taxi rank ever since. “I dropped out of school but want to further my studies and become something.”

Thobela Nkone, a security guard from Philippi did his matric in 2011. He joined the Vulamathuba Matric Programme to improve his marks so he could pursue nursing studies in the future.
