Student Success Stories

What students say
Ricardo May (39) from Goodwood says, “I took this challenge as I was part of a Brother 2 Brother team that was given a chance to do their matric. Only five people could get the opportunity, and thanks to God I was chosen. I chose to do this because it is an opportunity that I can’t let slip out of my hands”.

Inga Zabezolo from Summer Greens, who aspires to study social work or nursing after completing matric, says that the Matric Programme, “will change my life because I will be able to go to university, and after completing my studies, I will be able to get employment that will allow me to financially support my family.”

Programme Impact and Support
Learning and Development Officer, Wandile Ntengo, says, “One of the outcomes of the Matric Programme is to promote a desire for career advancement and independence. Many adult learners enrol in our programme to enhance their career prospects by pursuing post-school education and training or accessing better job opportunities.

We focus on delivering the Umalusi certificate to the participants with our tutoring sessions. We also ensure that the learners are exposed to career guidance and support to further their studies and create career pathways.”

Holistic Approach to Learning
Vulamathuba Empumelelo focuses on a holistic approach to people development, ensuring that students are academically and psychologically supported. This includes online classes, additional classes, mentoring, and counselling if needed. This assistance was invaluable in the lead-up to the final exams.

Says Siphosethu Mrubatha from Khayelitsha, the programme “changed the way I viewed myself. It made me have a more positive view of myself and my future.”

Appreciation for Support
Sandra Ndlovu, who joined the programme to get better employment and an opportunity to study further, “The classes had a huge impact on me acquiring the knowledge that I needed to be ready for the exam. The tutors gave us a step-by-step understanding of the work. I appreciate their patience and care to make sure that we understand what they are teaching and the push they gave us to reach our full potential.”
