From induction to mock exams, to pre-exam talks, and finally the exams themselves – the journey has been nothing short of transformative. And the results prove it. Thirty-nine determined graduates are preparing to proudly walk the stage on Saturday, 27 September 2025, at Vulamathuba’s annual Matric Graduation Ceremony.
The Adult Matric Programme, offered under Vulamathuba Empumelelo’s flagship Economic Mobility Programme, which aims to foster access to PIVOTAL (Professional, Vocational, Technical, and Academic Learning) programmes that enhance employability, career progression, and long-term economic stability, continues to prove that education is one of the most powerful tools for unlocking opportunity. This unique offering gives adults a second chance at completing their matric, with a one-year programme that blends compulsory Saturday in-person classes with convenient online weekday sessions. Along the way, students benefit not only from mock exams, but also from mentorship and career development, ensuring they leave with more than just a certificate – they leave prepared for the next chapter of their lives.
The results at a glance
This year’s outcome speaks volumes about the dedication of both our students and the Vulamathuba team:
- A total of 39 graduates successfully passed their matric (both Senior certificate and National Senior Certificate).
- 19 achieved a Bachelor’s pass
- 13 achieved a Diploma pass
- 7 achieved a Higher Certificate pass
- Of these graduates, 29 were Senior Certificates students had never completed matric – some having only a Grade 9, 10, or 11 report. Through resilience and the support of the programme, many of them are now proudly walking away with Bachelor’s and Diploma passes.
These results not only celebrate academic success but also showcase the life-changing impact of giving adults a second chance through education.
This year’s graduates have shown that resilience, discipline, and determination pay off. Among the standout stories are two remarkable students whose journeys symbolise the heart of the programme:
- Stumai Ramzane, 22 from Maitland
Stumai is the definition of resilience. After not making it last year, she made the brave decision to return, refusing to let her story end in defeat. Her hard work and determination paid off with a Bachelor’s pass this year.
“I want to take a moment to thank the support that Vulamathuba gave me. It is hard to fail and come back and stay motivated, but the Vula team made it easy for me,” she shared with pride.
- Scelo Ndudula, 33 from Khayelitsha
Scelo joined the Matric Programme later than the rest, in October, but his brilliance quickly stood out. What started as a step toward better employment turned into something bigger: not only did Scelo earn a Bachelor’s pass, but he also achieved a distinction in isiXhosa, making him one of the top performers this year.
“There is a lot that happened this year, and I came across so many obstacles, but one thing was guaranteed – the obstacles were going to become difficult if I didn’t have this certificate,” Scelo said, reflecting on his journey.
These stories – and the many others represented by the 39 graduates – highlight that the Vula Matric Programme is more than just a class: it’s a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and hope. On Saturday, graduates will don their gowns and sashes with pride, proving that their hard work and sacrifice were worth it.
And the journey continues. Vulamathuba is still accepting applications for the next intake, where students began their studies this July and will write their final exams in May/June next year. Space is limited – don’t wait to secure your place.
