Guess who’s back? Job Readiness round two!

4 September 2025

When you thought we were done, Vulamathuba said: “Not so fast!” The Job Readiness Programme is back – sharper, louder, and even more inspiring.

But let’s pause for a second: what exactly is Job Readiness?

It’s more than just a workshop. This programme is designed to equip community members with practical tools for the world of work. Think of it as your launchpad: from nailing time management to mastering teamwork, from building confidence to tackling interviews – Job Readiness is all about preparing people to walk into any workspace ready to shine. It is therefore perfectly aligned with Vulamathuba Empumelelo’s goal of creating an enabling environment to support the economic mobility of participants by empowering them to unlock opportunities for themselves.

Why does job readiness matter? Employment isn’t just about having a CV. It’s about skills, attitude, confidence, and knowing that ownership of your journey belongs to you. And that’s exactly the fire this second round has lit.

Take 19-year-old Elona Sekoyi from Communicare’s Drommedaris complex in Brooklyn. After months of job hunting with no luck, she joined the programme to build her skills early.

“One of the core skills I’ve learned that has been phenomenal for me is teamwork,” she shared. “I’m realising that for me to get most things done at a workplace, I need to work efficiently with others. Time management too – because if I don’t hold up my end of the bargain, the whole team feels it. These are things I will carry into my career.”

She’s right on track – already looking forward to graduation after completing her sessions, nervous but excited about the mock interviews. Her secret? Dedication.

Then there’s Zameka Mthi, 34 from Bothasig Gardens complex, who says a simple phrase from the programme changed her life: “No show, no success.”

“Every single day, I’m reminded that if I don’t show up for myself, then success won’t come. This programme has reignited that spark in me,” she says.

Then there’s one participant, who prefers to remain anonymous, and describes the programme as something completely unexpected. He recalls first hearing about it during a community outreach event hosted at Vulamathuba’s Community Learning Centre, where the team approached him.

“I saw this as an opportunity for me, as I had been unemployed for the longest time, even though I hold a Diploma in Engineering. Through the programme, I realised that I had been approaching job searching the wrong way – and I think many graduates are in the same boat. This programme is truly a life changer if you want to get employed.”

And it’s not just participants feeling the impact. Facilitator Xolile from Life Changes describes this second group with one word: ownership.

“The age ranges of the people here say it all about unemployment in our country. And yet, this group chose not to give up. They took ownership of their situation, and I am embracing them this season – people who take ownership, who refuse to wait for change but instead create it.”

That’s the heart of Job Readiness: showing up, taking ownership, and rewriting the story of unemployment one participant at a time.

When is the next one?

The next round of the Job Readiness Programme is scheduled for October 2025, and spots are limited – so don’t miss out! Stay connected with Vulamathuba on our social media platforms for updates and registration details.
