The Vulamathuba Empumelelo Class of 2023/2024 Adult Matriculants recently celebrated their outstanding Matric results. Out of 45 students who sat for the exams, 65% successfully passed. Among these learners, 27% achieved a Bachelor’s Pass, 31% earned a Diploma Pass, and 7% received a Higher Certificate Pass.

Celebrating Academic Achievements
What makes these results remarkable is the fact that the Matric Programme is designed for adult learners. It caters to those who have never completed their matriculation or wish to improve their marks. These learners often have to balance work, home, and study life. For this reason, the curriculum is tailored to fit their busy schedules, with classes held on Saturdays at our Brooklyn Learning Centre and additional online sessions for revision.

Transforming Lives Through Education
These results are not just about academic success; they are about transforming lives. Sandra Ndlovu (30) from Grassy Park, who obtained an impressive average of 65.5%, shares her journey: “Before joining Vulamathuba Adult Matric Programme, I worked different jobs just to survive. I was a restaurant worker, a cleaner, and even a nanny, but those jobs were just about getting by. When I decided to study for my Matric, my life changed. The programme restored my confidence and gave me hope for a better future.” Sandra’s experience highlights how education can be a powerful tool for empowerment, enabling her to move beyond survival mode and begin crafting a life filled with new possibilities.

Resilience and Determination
Sandra’s story is one of resilience and determination. Despite the challenges she faced, including financial struggles and the demands of balancing work with her studies, Sandra remained committed to her goal. “The most challenging part was managing my time and finances, but I knew I had to keep pushing forward. Now that I’ve completed the programme, my dreams and goals have shifted, I have a renewed sense of purpose and confidence, and I’m excited about what the future holds,” she says. Sandra’s journey serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and that with the right support, anything is possible.

Discovering Potential
Mpumelelo Mnisi (32) from District Six, another standout student, not only achieved a 91% in History but also discovered her full potential through Vulamathuba. “I wasn’t sure if I could still succeed academically at 32, but Vulamathuba is helping me realise that education has no age limit. Balancing work and studies are challenging, but it was worth every moment. Now, I’m unstoppable and ready to pursue a career in Human Resource Management or Public Relations Management,” she says. Mpumelelo’s journey illustrates the transformative power of education, as she overcame self-doubt and embraced the opportunity to redefine her future.

A Life-Changing Opportunity
For Mpumelelo, the Vulamathuba Matric Programme was more than just an educational experience, it was a life-changing opportunity. “Before joining Vulamathuba, I doubted myself. I kept starting and stopping my studies, feeling overwhelmed by the challenges in my life. But with the support of my tutors and fellow students, I found the strength to keep going. Now that I’ve achieved my matric, I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do,” she reflects. Mpumelelo’s success story is a testament to the power of perseverance, showing that with dedication and the right support system, even the most daunting goals can be achieved.

Graduation Celebration
In celebration of the matriculants’ achievements, Vulamathuba Empumelelo held a graduation ceremony for this amazing group on 21 September 2024. The ceremony was an unforgettable reunion for the remarkable individuals who journeyed through their matric classes with us. Some met Communicare CEO Anthea Houston for the first time and were moved by her powerful words: “I believe in me.” This message of self-confidence and determination struck a deep chord with the graduates, inspiring them to strive for even greater accomplishments.

The Spirit of Vulamathuba
Equally inspiring was the presence of students who were not yet competent but chose to attend the ceremony. Their decision to return and give their journey another try reflected the true spirit of Vulamathuba. This programme is more than an academic system; it is a family that uplifts and motivates every student, regardless of the challenges they face. The sense of belonging and encouragement is what makes Vulamathuba Empumelelo so unique, ensuring that every student has the strength to rise and persevere.

Looking to the Future
As Vulamathuba Empumelelo celebrates these results, they also look forward to welcoming new students who are ready to embark on their educational journey.
