At Vulamathuba Empumelelo, education is the key to unlocking new opportunities. That’s why we’re proud to announce the 2025 intake of our Adult Matric Programme — a second chance for those who have never completed their matric or need to improve their results.
This programme is designed specifically for adult learners, offering Saturday full-day classes at our Brooklyn Learning Centre and online support during the week. Whether you’re balancing work, family, or other responsibilities, we provide a structured and supportive learning environment to help you succeed.
What is the Adult Matric Programme?
The Adult Matric Programme allows individuals 21 years and older to obtain their Senior Certificate (Amended), which is recognised by the Department of Basic Education. With dedicated tutors, structured coursework, and a focus on student success, this programme has helped many adults gain the qualifications they need to access better job opportunities, higher education, and personal growth. Exactly what this programme, which forms part of the Vulamathuba Empumelelo economic mobility programmes, aims to do: fostering access to PIVOTAL (Professional, Vocational, Technical, and Academic Learning) programmes that enhance employability, career progression, and long-term economic stability, ultimately empowering individuals to transform their futures.
What you’ll gain
- CAPS-aligned curriculum covering key subjects needed to obtain your matric
- Expert tutors and experienced educators to guide and support you.
- Full-day Saturday classes and online support, making learning accessible
- Mock exams and assessments to help you track your progress and build confidence
- Career guidance and work readiness training, including CV writing, interview prep, and job search skills
- Dedicated Mentorship Programme for ongoing support and guidance from mentors who help you stay motivated, navigate challenges, and build confidence throughout your academic journey
- Higher Education Bursary Fund, plus free driving lessons, for qualifying students
Real people, real success
Britney Green, 22, from Woodstock, never thought she’d complete her matric after underperforming in high school. “I kept putting it off because I thought I was not smart enough for it, but this programme, my family, and the Vulamathuba team changed my mindset. Finding a credible and supportive institution wasn’t easy, but once I did, I knew I was in the right place. I passed last year, and now life is much better to navigate with my certificate.”
For Okuhle Vokozela, 29, from Steenberg, the programme meant more than just getting her certificate. “I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. The support I received here made all the difference. I referred my cousin, who was much older than me and had also given up on getting her matric. Six months into the programme, she is a top achiever in the mock exams, and I am confident she will make it in the matric final exam this May“.
