The Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund proudly announces that applications are now open for the 2026 academic year. This Bursary Fund empowers motivated and talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in the City of Cape Town Metro to pursue their educational dreams.

If you are an enthusiastic, driven individual with the ambition to succeed, this bursary offers financial assistance that covers

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration costs
  • Prescribed materials
  • Examination fees (where applicable)

Whether you wish to study full-time or part-time at a recognised university or public college, the Vulamathuba Bursary Fund supports you.

Who should apply?

  • Students with household incomes not exceeding R400,000 per year
  • Applicants who have applied to or been accepted at accredited higher education institutions
  • Residents of the City of Cape Town Metro, with preference to those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and attending/applying to public institutions
  • Those between 19 and 50 years old, including employed, unemployed, or disabled individuals

How to apply

  1. Complete the online application form available at Vulamathuba Bursary Application Portal.
  2. Ensure you submit all required supporting documents, including:
    1. Certified copies of your ID
    2. Academic certificates
    3. Proof of residence
    4. Motivational essay

The deadline for applications is 12 December 2025.

Successful recipients will be selected based on academic potential and financial need, and will be required to sign an agreement with Vulamathuba.
