Vulamathuba Empumelelo, the community and social development arm of Communicare Social Enterprise, was established to deliver developmental interventions to Communicare tenants and non-tenants residing within City of Cape Town. Vulamathuba’s overall objective is to create opportunities for the economic growth of participants by fostering the principle of Economic Mobility through education, skills, training, and development interventions.

Vulamathuba administers the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund (VEBF). The bursary allows recipients to pursue tertiary education, enhancing their self-reliant and financially mobile capacity. The principal purpose of the Fund is to give financial aid to Communicare tenants and individuals from previously marginalized communities who have academic potential yet are economically disadvantaged and looking to pursue a qualification that is described as a scarce or critical skill.

We invite individuals who desire to study at a recognised and accredited TVET Colleges to apply for a bursary for the current academic year. Priority is given to individuals accepted to study at public institutions in the City of Cape Town. We will consider bursary applications up to the Nated level 6 from financially needy learners with or without disabilities, employed or unemployed, and academically performing. Learners who have passed Grade 12 in previous years and students who are already at recognised and accredited TVET colleges are eligible for the bursary.

The principal objective of the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund (VEBF) is to provide financial aid through a bursary to Communicare tenants and individuals from previously marginalized communities within the City of Cape Town who have academic potential yet are economically disadvantaged.

The VEBF will determine the amount it allocates for tuition to successful applicants to a maximum of R 40 000,00 for tuition and R 5 000,00 for prescribed material.

The VEBF will prioritise Communicare tenants in good standing and authorised residents before considering neighbouring community members.

  • Between 19 and 50 years of age
  • With or without disabilities
  • Employed or unemployed
  • Wanting to study full-time or part-time
  • Completed Grade 12, and students at accredited higher education institutions.
