Applications for the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund are now open.

The fund continues to assist individuals to achieve their further education ambitions and enables them to make a difference in the areas in which they live.

The programme provides financial assistance to those who qualify, and it has made a big difference in the lives of many learners. In addition to a bursary of up to R40 000 for university or college fees, students who qualify can receive additional funding of R5 000 for books.

Stephanie Smith, a bursary recipient, is currently pursuing a Bachelor in Nursing and is looking forward to being a fully qualified nurse.

“I realised that other people in the community also need assistance and I was inspired to work towards giving back to the community through nursing. I have been working in the local hospitals and clinics to gain practical exposure, whilst juggling this with theoretical work”.

“I am extremely grateful to Communicare and Vulamathuba Empumelelo that I have been blessed with this amazing opportunity,” she says.

Nonkosi Maseti was awarded the bursary in 2017 while waiting to be approved by National Student Financial Aid Scheme . The bursary assisted her in her pursuits. “The bursary funded my first year of studies, it was a huge help while I was waiting for my NSFAS application to be approved. I did not have to worry about my school finances as the bursary covered them. I was also fortunate enough to do my learner’s licence and my driving lessons through the bursary fund,” she explains.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the bursary sponsors – keep on doing the great work. There is nothing as stressful as having to worry about school finances as a student. Such initiatives relieve stress so one can focus on your studies”.

Noma-Afrika Maxwele, Vulamathuba Empumelelo Manager, revels in the change the bursary fund has been able to bring about.

“We are delighted with the impact of the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund has had on the beneficiaries and their families and continuous community development. We’re committed to expanding our reach

through skills, training and development for recipients to realise their economic mobility,” says Noma-Afrika Maxwele, Vulamathuba Empumelelo Manager.
