Vulamathuba Empumelelo continues to strengthen pathways to opportunity through its recent Driver’s Licence Initiative, partnering with the Western Cape Mobility Department to support participants in preparing for their learner’s licence test.
From 23 to 25 February, 25 participants took part in an intensive three-day programme designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete their learner’s licence assessment. The training focused on road rules, traffic signage, vehicle controls and responsible road usage – all critical components of the learner’s licence test.
In many sectors, access to a driver’s licence significantly improves employability, mobility and economic independence. This intervention forms part of our broader Job Readiness Programme. The Driver’s Licence Initiative specifically supports top-performing Matric students and bursary recipients who are maintaining strong academic results, and individuals seeking employment in fields where a driver’s licence is a prerequisite.
As part of the initiative, we fund 20 professional driving lessons per participant through an accredited service provider. The partnership with the Western Cape Mobility Department has created an important bridge, enabling participants to take the first formal step toward obtaining their driver’s licence.
By reducing barriers to entry and strengthening practical life skills, we continue to invest in tangible interventions that expand access to opportunity. The collaboration with the Western Cape Mobility Department demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships in advancing youth development and building pathways to employment.
Through initiatives such as this, we remain committed to empowering participants not only academically, but also practically, ensuring they are equipped with the tools needed to move confidently toward their future.
